Itinerary & map
After arriving via the port of Milazzo, your island adventure begins on Lipari, the main island of the Aeolian Islands. Here, where the azure Tyrrhenian Sea kisses the shores, three nights full of discovery and Mediterranean flair await you. Lipari, with its charming streets and ancient atmosphere, will transport your senses to a world full of history and natural beauty. Let yourself be enchanted by the liveliness of the harbor and immerse yourself in the serenity of this magical island oasis.
Immerse yourself in the picturesque town of Lipari and let yourself be seduced by the charming streets of the old town. The ancient Acropolis, with its storied heritage, towers over the city and invites you to discover the island's fascinating history. Visit the archaeological museum, which reveals the cultural diversity of this region with relics from bygone eras. After your cultural discovery tour, the nearby pebble beach offers the perfect backdrop for relaxing hours under the warm sun, surrounded by the clear Tyrrhenian Sea.
Use this day to explore Lipari's unspoiled nature and inviting beaches, including gems such as Canneto and Acquacalda. A special jewel is the beach of Valle Muria, with its long, narrow stretch, dark lava gravel (so bathing shoes are recommended) and crystal clear water, embedded in a breathtaking landscape. For the more adventurous, there is the option to rent a scooter and take a scenic ride along the winding panoramic roads through the charming villages of Pianoconte, Quattropani and Acquacalda. Another fascinating destination is the Porticello pumice quarries, which were closed in 2003 and are now an impressive example of industrial archaeology.
Today, take a short speedboat cruise and reach the fascinating island of Stromboli in just over an hour. This volcano has gained worldwide attention in recent years due to impressive eruptions. After getting off the boat at the main pier, you can first explore the town and San Vincenzo, which are the main attractions for visitors with their restaurants, bars and souvenir shops. As you climb to the Osservatorio restaurant, you'll have great views of the sea and Strombolicchio, the small, jagged island northeast of Stromboli.
Spend the day on one of Stromboli's black beaches or take a trip to the Cave of Aeolus, located on the seafront about 2.5 km north of the port. If you are interested in volcanology and want to learn more about the activity and history of the volcano, a visit to the Stromboli Visitor Center is recommended. Here the topic is explained in an interesting way, and a clear wooden model of the volcano allows you to get a comprehensive picture of the entire island. An impressive end to a trip to Stromboli is a boat trip in the dark to witness the volcanic eruptions.
Salina is the second largest, greenest and most fertile island in the archipelago after Lipari, as it has its own freshwater sources. The island is characterized by the two volcanic cones Monte Fossa delle Felci and Monte dei Porri, on whose slopes there are caper plantations, grape vines and olive trees. The town is known not only for its tasty capers and Malvasia wine, but also for the idyllic cove on Pollara Beach, known as the location for the award-winning 1994 film “The Postman” by director Michael Radford. About 2 km south of Santa Marina you reach the district of Lingua with the lighthouse, which houses a museum about salt production.
The best way to explore Salina is by scooter. The roads are winding but in good condition, so you can stop anywhere and discover new things. The largest town is Malfa, which houses most of the shops, bars and restaurants. The pretty little harbor of Scario Galera with the adjacent beach invites you to take a walk between the lava rocks. Drive to Leni, through the Malvasia vines, and continue to Valdichiesa. Beautiful hiking trails start from here to Monte Fossa delle Felci, whose summit at 968 meters offers a breathtaking view. On the last evening, enjoy tuna with capers, pane cunzato with cherry tomatoes, pickled eggplant and baked ricotta, if possible with the sound of the sea and a view of the unforgettable sunsets.
Optional transfer to Milazzo (not included). Then drive to Catania airport for the return flight or individual extended stay.
